A commissioned piece of art is a unique and very personal creation. Perhaps you want a painting of a special place or favorite scene, a portrait of your pet, a still life of family heirlooms, or another subject that is meaningful to you. Whether a painting, drawing, or a series of smaller pieces that display well together, I will work closely with you to complete the project to your satisfaction.

In our initial meeting, we’ll talk about your thoughts and expectations for the painting, and I may offer suggestions on appropriate medium, size, composition or colors. Some customers have a particular effect or outcome in mind, but some would rather I follow my creative intuition. I will need photographs of the subject, or in some cases may need to see the specific location or possess the actual item/s. (Please note that I cannot work from copyrighted photos.)

Once we have discussed your project completely and come to a verbal agreement, I will then render a sketch of the piece, showing basic composition of the scene or subjects, and will provide a cost estimate. Generally, small pencil drawings start at $75, and can usually be completed within 1-2 weeks. More complicated projects using mediums such as pen and ink, pen and ink with acrylic, or acrylic will normally range between $150 and $1500 and require 1-2 months to finish. A large, full-scale oil painting is the most involved and may need 6 months for completion. Large oil paintings range from $1000 - $2500, depending on size, subject and complexity. In all cases, I try to keep commission pricing comparable to that of my regular artwork.

After you have had a chance to review and approve the composition drawing and fee, I will ask that you sign a basic contract and provide a 50% down payment to proceed. If over the course of the project you would like to be updated on its status with an occasional call or email, please ask. Or you may wish to visit my studio to see the painting in progress; if so, please call ahead for an appointment.

Once the piece is completed, you will have an opportunity to approve the final work. I want you to be happy with the finished product, and offer every client a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

You may wish to have your art professionally framed. I have a variety of reasonably priced frame styles and samples to choose from, and it will usually take only 1-2 additional weeks for framing. Another option that I offer, and you may want to consider, is to have your painting or drawing reproduced as high-quality note cards, a unique way to share your commissioned art.

It will be my pleasure to work with you on your next commission, and I value your trust in me to create a treasured work of art.
